Wise Words

An intelligent man, Jacques Torres, once said, "Life is short, eat dessert first." Whether it's any part of the day, Americans are no strangers to sweet indulgences - who doesn't love sharing a sugary snack after a long day?

We're totally spoiled for choice when it comes to sweet treats - from every flavor of ice cream you could possibly dream of (including garlic!) to Florida's Key Lime Pie, and Boston Cream Doughnuts - the possibilities are endless...

Leading sweet treat specialists, Funky Chunky, surveyed 3,800 Americans to find out if they were to choose an official sweet treat to represent their state, what would it be?

Julian Gets Noticed!

The study found that in California, Apple Pie was a firm favorite, racking up 38% of votes. This well-loved classic dessert has a soft apple filling topped with a crispy pastry top - simple but delicious. Fun fact: mountain town, Julian, just outside of San Diego, has the perfect apple-growing climate and has actually earned the acclaimed title of apple pie capital of California!

We Love Our Lemon

In second place, 22% of Californians voted for Meyer Lemon Cake. The Meyer Lemon is a hybrid citrus fruit that is sweeter than your typical lemon. This cake uses the fresh juice and zest in its recipe and is topped with a perfectly glossy lemon glaze.

We All Scream...

Finally, Rocky Road came in third place with 18% of the vote. Although also popular as an ice cream flavor, the Rocky Road slice is best known in The Golden State. Made using melted milk and dark chocolate, cookies and chopped up marshmallows, this decadent dessert is sure to leave you wanting more.

Sharing is Caring

Funky Chunky also found that when they buy their favorite snack, one-third of Americans say it's to share with their partner - aaaaw! Broken down, it was actually men who are more likely to share with their significant other - 34% compared to 31% of women.

However, sometimes it just feels right to have a silent sweet moment to ourselves... It appears a large number of us are in agreement with this as a third of respondents admit they hide treats around the house, so they don't have to share!

We all have that one sugary thing we can't resist - our sw?et de r?sistance, if you may. Go figure, because 1/5 (20%) of respondents say they have actually been addicted to a particular snack or sweet treat.

Finally, the survey revealed that Americans treat themselves 3 days of the week to a sweet snack. However, moderation is always key and in fact, just 1 in 10 parents say they let their children eat sweet treats on a regular basis.

As a result of the survey, the folks at Funky Chunky created this great interactive map that lets you see the top choices in all fifty states! Click here or on the image below to see the map.
