Ways to Help the San Diego Community during the COVID-19 Pandemic

We are a #UnitedSanDiego

March 27, 2020

We are a #UnitedSanDiego. In this difficult time, those who have the means to donate may be wondering how they can help those in need.

If you're looking for ways to help, we've compiled some resources to help the local San Diego community overcome these difficult times.

STAY HOME

Do your part to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 by staying home. You can go out for essentials, like purchasing groceries and for medical care, but remain 6 feet away from people who are not a part of your household.

DONATE FOOD

The San Diego Food Bank is continuing their food distribution programs, and facing an increase in demand for food assistance. Some ways to help the Food Bank:

** The Del Mar Fairgrounds & San Diego Food Bank are hosting an Emergency Food Distribution Event on April 3rd at 10am. For more info click here.

More details on the Food Bank's response to COVID-19, click here.

DONATE MEDICAL SUPPLIES

Local hospitals- are working to ensure supplies & equipment remain readily available, and some are accepting donations of medical supplies, personal protective equipment (PPE), or collecting monetary donations. See how you can help your local hospital below:

DONATE BLOOD

If you're eligible to donate blood, the San Diego Blood Bank remains open for donations BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, to help manage the number of people in their donor centers.

The Blood Bank has donor centers across the county, see the locations, book an appointment, and get more information on donating here.

SUPPORT LOCAL AND FAMILY OWNED BUSINESSES

Local and family businesses need our love, support, and business during this difficult time. Many restaurants are still open for pickup and delivery only. Treat yourself to takeout!

Find our list of local restaurants and businesses that have told us they're still open (and tell us about your business!) here!

HELP FAMILIES KEEP THEIR PETS

The San Diego Humane Society is working to help pet families who need help during the COVID-19 pandemic by providing supplies like pet food, cat litter, and more through their PAWS San Diego pantry program. Some ways you can help during this time:

  • Make a Donation to the PAWS San Diego program
  • Purchase items from their official Wish Lish

Stay home, stay healthy, and stay safe. We are #UnitedSanDiego.
